Authorized Health Centers

  • There is a new mandatory requirement for anyone coming to the Kingdom of Bahrain on a work visa to undergo a medical check-up in his home country and forward a one page medical certificate or report showing him / her as fit to work.
  • The Medical report must be issued from an authorized center from the below approved list.
  • The ministry of health does not yet have agreements with medical providers in all countries or cities. Employees from those countries not included in the list can complete their health screening at a hospital / medical center of their choice in their home country or city.

  • Please note: family members coming to Bahrain on a dependent visa do not need to undergo this health check.

Pre-employment Examination General Rules for Expatriates

All expatriates applicants for job in Bahrain are required to do a medical check up at the country of origin from approved GAMCA medical centre and In Bahrain they will undergo another medical examination before getting their residents permit. This medical examination will include the following:

  1. Detailed comprehensive history, general and occupational.
  2. Vital signs blood pressure, Visual activity, height and weight.
  3. General medical examination.
  4. Chest x-ray for all expats.
  5. Serology Blood investigation including HCV, HIV, HbsAg and VDRL for all expats.
  6. Certain test like color vision, audiometry and spirometry can be added for certain special group category (special risk group). Example: like pilots and ship captain needs color vision and audiometry. Audiometry is needed for those who will work in noise.
  7. Biochemistry for liver and renal function.
  8. Complete blood count. 
  9. Stool R/M and culture to role out salmonella and shegella.

10.  Other tests like Hb and sugar and etc… can be ordered based on history and physical examination.

Rules for considering unfit for work :

The following condition are considered unfit for work for new expatriates with new work visa, Bahraini worker and domestic work

A –Infectious

  1. HIV positive
  2. HbsAg positive
  3. HCV positive
  4. Tuberculosis any type:
    A-  Pulmonary by chest X-ray showing active or past evidence of old T.B.
    B- Tuberculous pleural effusion.
    C- Tuberculous lymphadenitis.
  5. AFB(acid fast bacilli) positive smear or culture

B- Non-infectious

  1. Severe uncontrolled Hypertension
  2. Uncontrolled Diabetes mellitus
  3. Epilepsy
  4. Malignancy
  5. Renal failure
  6. Hepatic failure
  7. Congestive heart failure.
  8. Known case of cancer
  9. Psychiatric diseases
